What CMS is more popular Joomla, Drupal, or WordPress?

One of the greatest things in the word is your freedom to choose and when your building a website you have a lot to choose from. The big three in the Open Source CMS world are Joomla, Drupal, and WordPress and you need to choose one for your new website. There are many ways to make this decision, available templates, security updates, ease of use, etc… One very important consideration is community support. I just ran into, what I consider, to be an interesting find. I ran the big three through the Free Keyword tool from Wordtracker and was presented with the following results.

  • WordPress 941
  • Joomla 849
  • Drupal 223

What does this tell us? To be completely honest? Not much other then Drupal is searched less :-) All three have very active forums, many extensions, and custom development available. I guess it all depends on ‘Which One is Right for You?’ Head over to Alledia to have that question answered, at least between Joomla & Drupal. I think if your running a blog the clear choice is WordPress.

I tried the 3, as you said, for blogging WordPress is unbeatable, otherwise the actual comparison should be between Drupal and Joomla. The last is much more user freindly and Joomla community is huge. Drupal is certainly more powerful, but less ‘beautiful’, users generally shift to it after being on Joomla and finding out that Joomla cannot satisfy certain needs.

I think given the right designers Drupal can be just as ‘beautiful’, It just doesn’t have that many of them out there.

Alledia has a really good comparison of Joomla vs Drupal in the post above :-)

The comparison is more than two years old. A lot has changed. Time for an update.
